One of the challenges that we recognized among our sponsored children is the increasing number of absences in school. During the consultative meeting the mothers expressed the reasons for this recurring problem. It was found out that majority of the absences is caused by poor dental condition. Simultaneously, we conducted a health survey among our Project Kasaligan (Micro loan) beneficiaries and dental problem ranked 3rd among the top ten health concerns of the mothers. Thus we hereby organized a dental mission led by our Health & Literacy officers. We invited two dentists from the Department of Health to help us make this project possible. Doctor Mars Panganiban from Bethel Baptist Hospital in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, and Doctor Dante Pajo, from Cagayan de Oro City. There was a total of 110 children and adults who came and given dental assistance. The adults were provided with medication and the children were given dental kit after a brief lecture on proper oral hygiene. Many of these individuals could not afford to go to the dentist and this free dental service was an important accomplishment in attending to the needs of the low-income families. Due to a significant number of requests, we are hoping to have a repeat operation next year.
