In December, 2012, parts of Mindanao were devastated by Typhoon Pablo. The victims of the typhoon, most of them poor rural farmers lost everything. Many also lost family members to the typhoon. The HELP Foundation decided to divert monies from ongoing projects to assist the victims of the typhoon. The HELP Foundation committed $5,750.00 to purchase much needed food for the survivors. Coincidently, the Lucena Rotary Club was involved in a food packaging event in Luzon and we made the decision to utilize the Rotary clubs in the Philippines to package and ship the meals to the Compostela Valley. The Lucena Club packaged the meals under the supervision of Stop Hunger Now based in Raleigh, North Carolina; The HELP Foundation transported the food to a Philippine Air Force Base ; the Philippine Air Force transported the food to the Mactan Air Force Base; the Cebu Rotary Club will move the food to the Compostela valley to distribute to the typhoon victims. When I was in the States in February I solicited funds from Stateside Rotary Clubs who generously donated to this worthy cause. The food donated by Rotary was not subject to governmental regulations and was stove-piped directly to the victims.
